Ethical Manufacturing

We are wholly cruelty-free. This means absolutely NO animal testing or partnering with brands who sell in countries where animal testing is required and NO manufacturing in countries with lower worker standards than the USA, unless the brand can provide clear proof of fair worker standards. We actively push our brands, our partners, and ourselves for greater transparency.

Restricted Ingredients

Ingredients you will never find in any product we stock.


A synthetic, colorless liquid with a faint sweet odor, used as a stabilizer or solvent. It is an eye and lung irritant, with exposure causing damage to the central nervous system, liver and kidneys. 1, 4 Dioxane is currently classified as a probable carcinogen.

An antimicrobial agent, biocide, preservative and surfactant associated with severe skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and allergies, benzalkonium chloride is a sensitizer especially dangerous for people with asthma or skin conditions such as eczema.

Preservatives and stabilizers, BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) are possible human carcinogens and endocrine disruptors, causing organ system toxicity through persistence and bioaccumulation.

A pH adjuster, DEA causes organ system toxicity and is classified as a possible carcinogen.

EDTA is a chelating agent, used to sequester and decrease the reactivity of metal ions that may be present in a product. It enhances skin absorption, but is classified as an irritant in Canada and the EU.

A carcinogenic impurity released by a number of cosmetic preservatives, including diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, DMDM hydantoin, quaternium-15, 2-bromo-2-nitripropane-1,3-diol, and sodium hydroxylmethylglycinate. It is known to cause organ system toxicity, namely respiratory irritation.

Homosalate is a common sunscreen ingredient. Research indicates it is a weak hormone disruptor, and sunlight breaks down the chemical into harmful byproducts that cause endocrine disruption and are environmental toxins.

Heavy metals that are notably toxic and carcinogenic, often a by-product of industrial waste.

MIT and MCIT are both widely-used preservatives known to cause allergic reactions. Animal studies have shown they are also neurotoxins. They cause environmental toxicity and have been banned in the EU.

p-Phenylenediamine is an ingredient widely used in hair dyes and is a strong allergen and skin toxicant.

The State of California and the EU have classified dibutyl phthalate (DBP) as a reproductive and developmental toxicant; exposure to DBP during gestation causes infertility, cryptorchidism and problems in sperm development, adverse effects similar to human testicular dysgenesis syndrome. Prenatal exposure to DBP has been associated with anatomical changes in the reproductive system development in baby boys. In adult men, DBP has been correlated with changes in serum hormone levels, lower sperm concentration and motility, and decreased fertility.

Polyacrylamide is a synthetic polymer of acrylamide, an enviormental toxin and known carcinogen (cancer-causing agent).

PTFE is a polymer of tetrafluoroethylene, known under the brand name Teflon, and is used as a binding and skin conditioning agent. There are high contamination concerns with perfluorooctanoic acid, a human carcinogen that also causes neurotoxicity and effects reproductive health.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate is and ingredient derived from ethoxylated lauryl alcohol and used as a surfactant. It is commonly contaminated with 1,4 Dioxane and has been known to cause organ system toxicity.

A volatile petrochemical solvent and paint thinner, toluene is a potent neurotoxicant.

Though not necessarily toxic, animal-derived ingredients do contribute to animal suffering and environmental suffering, while also posing health risks. At Petit Vour, we believe animal-free alternatives perform just as well as their animal-derived counterparts without the long-reaching ill effects.
Animal By-Products Include: allantonin, animal fats, hairs and oils, bee products, biotin, bone char, carmine, collagen, gelatin, guanine, hyaluronic acid, keratin, lactic acid, lanolin, lecithin, milk protein, pearl, musk, silk, squalene, stearic acid, tallow, etc.
Please note: Some ingredients can be derived from animals OR plants. Rest assured, we have incredibly thorough brand contracts with all of our brand partners that forbid products containing animal-derived ingredients be sold to Petit Vour.

Used to adjust the viscosity in beauty products, especially in fragrances, butoxyethanol has been banned in the EU for causing allergic reactions and irritating the skin and lungs.

Carbon Black is a color composed of finely divided particles of elemental carbon obtained by the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. It is known to cause organ system toxicity.

Often unlisted on the ingredient label, this toxin occurs in the manufacturing of cotton balls, facial tissue, toilet tissue, sanitary pads and tampons. It has been known to cause endocrine disruption, organ system toxicity, persistence in bioaccumulation, and irritation of the skin, eyes, or lungs.

Used to balance the pH levels in topical products, but has been shown to cause strong allergic reactions to the skin and lungs especially with prolonged exposure.

A skin lightening agent known to cause cancer in rodents at high doses.

Often used as a skin-conditioning and moisturizing agent, paraffin oils and waxes are derived from petroleum and need to be properly refined for them to be considered non-toxic. The contamination concerns are too high for us to include in products we carry. Aerosolized (airborne) petroleum by-products have been shown to cause cancer.

Conventional nail polish removers contain toxic solvents to remove nail polish.

Parabens are preservatives that mimic estrogen and can act as potential hormone (endocrine) system disruptors as well as cause biochemical or cellular-level changes.

Often used as a skin-conditioning and moisturizing agent, petrolatum (or petroleum jelly) needs to be properly refined for it to be considered non-toxic. The contamination concerns are too high for us to include in products we carry.

This ingredient is derived from the placenta, an organ that develops in female mammals during pregnancy, lining the uterine wall and attached by the umbilical cord to provide nourishment and oxygen to the fetus. The contamination concerns are too high and irregulated to include in products we carry.

This ingredient is common in hair color and bleaching products. Health risks include endocrine disruption, irritation of skin, eyes, and lungs, as well as organ system toxicity.

These common sunscreen ingredients are UV filters. Unfortunately, they have hormone-mimicking effects, altering thyroid behavior and imbalancing estrogen and testosterone levels. Application of these ingredients has also been shown to alter birth weight in human studies. Furthermore, new studies suggest these ingredients cause damage to coral reefs.

Triclosan is an antibacterial agent and preservative used in personal care and home-cleaning products that causes persistence and bioaccumulation, endocrine system disruption, organ system toxicity, and irritation.
