GREEN BEAUTY GUIDE: FLAWLESS SUMMER SKIN

Posted on 10 July 2018

Hellloooo Summer! We can't get enough of this sunshine, but our skin is starting to protest! If you're like us, your skin may be feeling a little frazzled from going back and forth between hot, outdoor activities and cold, dry interiors. The last thing you want to do is use something harsh and toxic that will just aggravate rather than alleviate your skin concerns. But fear not! You can still have your best skin ever; we looped in our esthetician BFF Lauren (of Estie Bestie) to help us discover just the right remedies—all cruelty-free and plant-based!—to soothe our inflamed summer skin and look #flawless.

Lauren of Estie Bestie Portrait

Hello! My name is Lauren, better known as Estie Bestie. My own acne and skin struggles inspired me to become an esthetician and to create my platform, Estie Bestie on social media so I could help more people with skincare. I formulated a routine for every skin type because each type has their own set of skin struggles. Each routine includes many of my favorite skin care products to help you achieve the best skin possible and is curated uniquely to your skin type.

DRY SKIN

THE CONCERN

Skin condition may improve if in a humid area, but may also suffer from drier, inflamed skin if
regularly exposed to the sun and humidity is lacking. Any fine lines will be more apparent.

THE SOLUTION

“Water intake is important for everyone this summer, but it’s not enough to hydrate your skin, especially with drier skin types. Dry skin lacks the ability to keep hydration locked in and quite frankly doesn’t function properly, causing premature aging. Your routine consists of hydrating toners and serums that bring water to the skin, and moisturizers that will lock in that hydration. Your skin may also seem dull due to dead skin buildup making it difficult for new cells to absorb water. This calls for regular exfoliation. Everything in your routine is nourishing, hydrating, and plumping bringing that natural bounce back to your skin.”

OILY SKIN

THE CONCERN

During the summer, your skin condition & sebum production are in overdrive.
You may suffer from unruly or cystic acne.

THE SOLUTION

“It’s so important for those with acneic and oily skin to have a well-balanced, consistent skincare routine. I designed this regimen with products that will fight against breakouts, deep clean pores and control oil production. Nothing in this routine will feel heavy on the skin; everything is light and breathable. The main ingredient in your routine is Salicylic Acid which is great for controlling oil production and breakouts.”

THE CONCERN

During the summer, your skin condition & sebum production are in overdrive.
You may experience dry patches from sun exposure and can suffer from unruly or cystic acne.

THE SOLUTION

“When dealing with combination skin, your goal is to find a balance between your oil production and your dry areas. Your routine includes products with humectants that will bind water and hydration to your skin. If your skin is hydrated, it won’t produce excess amounts of oil and dry patches won’t appear. Sometimes, with your skin type, heavy products with oils can dehydrate your skin or cause it to become overly oily. The products in your routine are lightweight, balancing, and breathable.”

SENSITIVE SKIN

THE CONCERN

Skin condition may worsen if exposed to too much sun & heat: you may notice increased
redness or itchiness and your skin may feel pulled or dry in certain places. Inflammation
can worsen in times of sun & heat overexposure, causing acne to surface.

THE SOLUTION

“Sensitive and reactive skin sufferers should be mindful of heavy fragrances or too many essential oils in their skin care. Stay away from acids like Glycolic, Salicylic, and even Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) as they can cause irritation or unwanted breakouts in reactive, sensitive skin. The routine I designed for you is nourishing, gentle, and will protect your delicate skin with the cleanest, most soothing products on the market.”
